Mom's Birthday Scarf

I started my mother's scarf last night and worked on it all day today, and I hope to finish it tomorrow. I'm calling it her birthday scarf for two reasons. 1 tomorrow (today now) is her birthday, and I am using her, my, and my younger sister's birthdays as the pattern for the scarf.

I have always been interested in numbers and their significance. I once knitted a hat with a binary message in it. I used knit for 1 and purl for 0. I used a binary translator online to encode my message, and simply knit the pattern around after a few inches of sockinette. I thought it looked pretty cool, though I never finished it and eventually ripped it apart to use the yarn for something else.

Anyway, for this scarf I took each digit in our birthdays and knitted that number of rows with a drop stitch row in between. Pictures and pattern (it's really simple but I'll write it down anyway) to follow when finished, maybe my mom will even model it for me.

Another pattern I created was originally designed for my best friend and cousin, Raquel. It is a headband with a flower. When my younger cousins and sisters saw it, the all wanted one so I knit them ones as well. I still have to make my sister's though. I will be posting a picture of that with a pattern as well. It's a nice quick project that looks really cute.
